Lily

My Mom's dog eats very well. She is allergic to beef. Or so we think. She gets duck, venison, and fish meals, Natural Balance is the brand name.

What is great about Lily, is that she eats almost all vegetables and many fruits. I am sure she will eat anything that is not good for her too. Last night she had fresh beets, tomato, and some pear.

This morning she had some carrots to snack on. Her favorite is tomatoes, and she eats them right off my plant!

Turtle Bay Exploration Park

This is an excellent family destination.Allow at least two or three hours at the exploratorium, as there is so much to do. They always have some recent exhibition of art or historical art, there is an aquarium with native species of fish. There is an old mill, Paul Bunyun's Forest Camp, which has been restored as a learning center, and home to many reptiles and animals. There is a playground for kids to run around and play in. There are birds such as owls and red tail hawks outside as you walk between buildings. You may even catch them during times when they are feeding, that goes for the fish also.

Turtle Bay Exploratorium has hands on experimental area for kids to learn about the environment. The Exploration Park is located on the Sacramento River, right at the Sundial Bridge, where you are free to roam across and enjoy the river, and there you will find the McConnell arboretum and botanical gardens.

Not to forget the Turtle Bay Cafe, located right at the museum and also the bridge. What a way to take in a meal! I recommend checking their site to check their schedule.

Birds Mating

These birds were being very loud on the lawn one morning. Usually birds fly away quickly once I open the door, but these two did not, they were quite intent on one another.

The birds then flew upwards together and then one flew off and they sat in separate trees.

Sacramento River and Sundial Bridge in Redding

The Sundial Bridge is a walking bridge over the Sacramento river in Redding, California, next to the Turtle Bay Exploratorium. It is something to see if you are visiting Redding, CA.

The bridge is designed by architect, Santiago Calatrava. Here is a blurb from the site.

http://www.turtlebay.org/att_sundialBridge.php

The design for the Sundial Bridge was conceived by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the world’s premier bridge designer. Calatrava has built bridges, airports, rail terminals, stadiums, and other structures around the world. Though he recently completeda major expansion of the Milwaukee Art Museum, and has been selected to design the new Oakland Cathedral, this is his first freestanding bridge in the United States.

McCloud Dinner Train

A few people that I know, including my parents have been on this dinner train up in McCloud, California. The train ride is great and the scenery of Mt. Shasta and the surrounding area is quite spectacular. My parents went on the dinner train back in August. Below is a link to the site.

This type of art is so interesting. It is amazing how three dimensional the art looks. I have received a few emails with these types of pieces and photos, but this one I found on BBC News in the Pictures of the Day.

Joss House - Weaverville

The Joss House is like
wallpaper to many residents of Weaverville, CA. Something that has been there so long that sometimes you barely notice it any more.

The Joss House is quite historic and thankfully unlike wall paper will hopefully never be torn town. Many residents clearly do enjoy the Joss House state historic park and the traditions and ceremonies that are still being held today.

Virginia Creeper

This vine is growing up a tree now for many years at my parents place. It is more noticeable around this time of year as the vine is bright red. It is quite pretty. I found more information about the vine at the University of Arkansas website written by a retired horticulturist. He seems to have a sense of humor.

http://www.arhomeandgarden.org/plantoftheweek/articles/virginia_creeper.htm

Virginia Creeper Latin: Celosia Parthenocissus quinquefolia.Because Virginia creeper is a vine that grows in the woods, people jump to the conclusion that it must be poison ivy. About the only characteristic Virginia creeper shares with poison ivy is that it grows in the woods. But so do oak trees and bears, and people hardly ever seem to confuse them.

Virginia creeper has one of those interesting scientific names that just seem to roll off your tongue -- assuming it's a well lubricated tongue. The genus name is from the Greek word parthenos, which means virgin and refers to Virginia, which was named after England's virgin queen, Elizabeth I. The second part of the name, kissos, is Latin for ivy. The epitaph translates literally as "five leaves."
