Memorial Day 2011

Here it is again Memorial Day 2011.  While much of America takes a holiday, many of the soldiers all over the world are working.  They are still separated from their loved ones, and they possibly won't make it home again.

I have a deep appreciation for all those that have given their lives to protect our nation.  They have given the ultimate sacrifice. 

My heart goes out the the family members who have lost loved ones, also to the soldier's left standing.

Christmas 2010 Whirlwind of Chocolates, Cookies, and Candies

Christmas 2010 was a winter wonderland adventure of cookies and chocolates rather than snow. I had lots of help with my Christmas treats.  These girls can really decorate, cookies and chocolate. When we started the chocolates, I had a design in mind, but that failed.  The girls did what they wanted and their ideas were better than mine, so I let them do what they wanted.

Happy Valentine's Day! Valentine Chocolate

This year I made fine chocolates, using Callebaut Milk Chocolate, Belgian (I believe) and Scharffen Berger Bittersweet Dark Chocolate, out of Berkeley or San Francisco.

I tried to write on the chocolates, but writing with warm chocolate is not easy. Towards the end of all the chocolates I realized that the cooler chocolate actually worked better for writing.

I made several different kinds; chocolate with toasted almonds, chocolate with toasted pecans and caramel, and chocolate with caramel in the center. Delicious!

Happy New Year's Day!!

New Year's Eve was very casual for me this new year, staying in and relaxing in my p.j.s. I prepared some Swiss and Gruyère cheese fondue, cracked crab and also enjoyed champagne. I invited the neighbors to come and have some with me and to please wear their pajama's! Thanks Ladies for coming over! :-)

The fondue recipe is one from a restaurant that is no longer in Chico, it was called Rubino's, it was a wonderful fondue restaurant.

My favorite activity to do at Christmas time is to make sugar cookies and decorate them. Thanks M. for all your help with the cookies the past few years!

The Santa my Mom painted. It reminded me of an ornament we used to have when I was a little girl.

Ghirardelli Chocolate Covered Peaunut Butter Balls

Ahhh Christmas time! There are three things that I love to make, chocolate turtles, decorated sugar cookies and peanut butter balls. My mother made turtles and sugar cookies since I can remember, and my grandmother made the peanut butter balls. All are very unhealthy, if you receive some of these over the holidays please be warned: Must exercise when consuming these products.

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone! It is going to be a wonderful day in Shasta County a warmer Halloween if you will. I have not yet decided if I will dress up yet, but I have my Catwoman costume handy, and there will be trick or treating in the neighborhood. The picture below was taken I think two years ago. I found it in my folders the other day and had to post it.

4th of July, Independence Day 2009

Happy 4th of July Everyone!!! Hope everyone is having a great day! Remember to appreciate what freedoms and rights we stand for in the United States of America.

BMX Races, 4th of July, Weaverville, CA

Went to Lowdown Park this morning to check out the kids in the BMX races. Very cute the little bike riders! It was a nice little even, no major injuries, so that is a plus! All the kids and even the parents did a great job in the races!

4th of July, Weaverville, CA, Destruction Derby

The 4th of July in Weaverville, CA is a week long celebration usually. They have already set up the fair and concessions in the Lowden Park. These are pictures from the Destruction Derby in years past. You have not experience 4th of July in Weaverville until you have experienced the Destruction Derby. It is very exciting!

Cinco de Mayo Celebration - Shasta College

There was a celebration for Cinco de Mayo at the local community college. It is a wonderful event, there is some good food, and latin music, along with these very talented young dancers from Corning High School. They are so energetic, and truly can dance well.

Happy May Day

Another year has flown by and here we are again at May Day 2009. Every year in Junction City, CA they have a very wonderful May Day celebration. There are fun games for the children, booths with things to buy for gifts. Then, the piéce de resistance is the actual May Day Ribbon dance, which is where children and adult participate and weave the multi-colored ribbons. It is a fun community event, and the children love it.
