The pear tree is blooming again, and it is beautiful.  This tree is old and very tall.  It produces pretty good pears, even without being watered.

Pugliese bread sliced thick, dipped in milk, eggs, with vanilla, and cinnamon. Add some maple syrup and voila breakfast!

Winter Fruit - Pomegranate's, Delicious and Nutritious.

Pomegranates used to be my favorite fruit as a child. I still do enjoy eating them very much. My aunt says to peel them underwater it is less messy that way. Recently I read that the seeds of pomegranates have great nutritional value.

Lily the Dog looking for Fuji Apples Under the Apple Tree, Trinity County

Lily loves fruit and vegetables. Her favorites are tomatoes, pears, and apples, probably because they are abundant in the fall for her to scavenge. Here she is when I was picking Fuji apples last week. Although, I believe, she likes the pears more, she tends to be under that tree more often. Apparently the bear cub likes the pears too. There has been two sightings of the bear cub already under the pear tree.

Pomegranate, A Delicious and Nutritious Fruit

A pomegranate fruit was one of my favorites as a child and still is. It is so delicious, worth the effort it takes to peel.I f you put one in a bowl or sink of water, it is less messy and also easier to peel. You can thank my aunt for that piece of advice. She uses them in a particular salad that she serves. I like to eat them alone.










Recently I read something about the pomegranate seeds being very good for you. They have large quantities of antioxidants also. I found this site which I found to be very well made. If you have never had a pomegranate, this would be a very helpful site.

Puff Pastry with Fresh Apples from Trinity County

I love these apples they are so delicious. They look like pink lady apples and are sweet like them also.

I have been making these apple puff pastries. I have not quite perfected the size and shape. I bought the frozen puff pastry, for now. I peel and slice the apples very thin.

Apples and Pears in September, Trinity County

These are the same pears that I had pictures of before. I love fruit picked fresh off the tree. These pear fruits are delicious once they ripen. The apples are from the neighbor. Thanks! Those apples are the best!

Dessert, Red and Golden Rasberries

Today at the market I noticed some golden raspberries and I could not resist trying them. I had not tried golden raspberries before. They are delicious! I think they are a tiny bit sweeter than the red raspberries.

September Brings Us Pears, Trinity County

There is a pear tree that has been on the property for years. I never remember having pears as a child, maybe it did not produce fruit at that time. It never really gets watered, yet the pear fruits are wonderful. They are not large pears and I have no idea what type they are, but they are sweet and delicious. Once we have picked some pears, I want to attempt once again to make a pear clafouti, or clafouti aux poires. You can substitute apples but it is not the same in my opinion.

Finally, some Blackberries

Blackberries are the greatest fruit ever. I love standing in the middle of the blackberry bushes and picking them. It can be painful yes, but they are worth every prick of the thorns. You hands and arms can itch and feel irritated after picking them. Below are pictures of the blackberries that I picked. My neighbors can attest to these wonderful tasting blackberries. Blackberry Bushes and Poison Oak

This is really happened to me. A couple of years ago I was on a wild blackberry picking frenzy . As I picked a blackberry and ate it, I realized that the leaf next to it and touching it was not blackberry looking. Turns out, I was standing in a huge of poison oak plant, picking and eating blackberries in the poison oak leaves. When I realized what I was doing, panic mode kicked in. I thought I might get poison oak in my mouth or something. So I backed out of the poison oak, walked back to the house, and when I got there, stripped outside, at the backdoor and jumped into a soapy cold shower.

I did not get poison oak, and maybe that is because I have been picking blackberries in that same spot since I was a little girl. I just never noticed it before, or even knew or cared what poison oak was. Below are the pictures, of the spot where I was standing. The poison oak seems to be spreading. Blackberries in August

Blackberries along the Trinity River are just starting to turn black. Lots of them already are and ready to be picked.
