Sunset Magazine

I was reading on of the latest issues about Northern California in Sunset Magazine. The article used the words Northern California, yet it only mentioned cities in the bay area. To me this is more central California. I think the people in the bay area, are confused. Where do i live then,
the most northern of California?
My mother heard someone in a store the other day in Middleton.
These are the womans words.
"The smoke is coming from down north!"
Now that is interesting.

Junction City School

http://www.junctioncityschool.org/home.aspx

This is the school down river from Weaverville.
This is where the young firefighter who had a tree fall on him was
evacuated from by helicopter. My cousins 7 year old informed me of that. Quite sad.
Home of the Jaguars!
Great school! The teachers, principal and staff are wonderful there.
I am biased as I know a few of them!

More Smoke Today

Last night the smoke rolled in. My cousins were leaving, and the doors and windows
had been open all day/evening, when I suddenly realized it smelled strongly of smoke.
I quickly shut the windows and doors, for the night. I guess I forgot one this morning.
The house still smells like smoke this morning.
Blue skies were so nice yesterday! Hopefully the smoke will clear today.

Clear Blue Skies

Today is the first day that we have clear blue skies in northern california since the end of June.
It is gorgeous outside. I am so used to the sun here in California, that 1 month of summer with no sun was really quite strange.
Wooo hoooo the sun is back and the skies are blue!

Trinity River - Smoky haze

This is the Indian Creek at the Trinity River where the creek runs into the river, off of 299 E.
They recently cleared back the brush and are restoring the river. There is a cute little hotel/motel here, called Indian Creek Lodge. Been there since I can remember. To tell you the truth, I have never set foot on the property, but driven by it millions of times.

Another Death from Fires

Another fireman lost his life this past day.
A fire chief from Washington.
Another hero!
Again my thoughts are with the family, friends and fellow fire fighters of this
fallen hero.

Behold Partial Blue Skies

Wow! You can actually see blue skies this morning. What a great day!!!
It would be very nice if the fires were gone before August.
All of July has been a fiery fire all around. I have called this summer
Fires of 2008 so far.

Whiskeytown Lake

This is Whiskeytown Lake, although you can barely see the lake through the smoke.
There were about four fire engines here at the stop when I was there. On there way to fires no doubt.

Fire News

Tragically, a firefighter died in Trinity County this past day.
He was from another area, and very young. A true hero.
Anyone who chooses firefighting as a career, is a hero in my eyes.
I think they are definitely special types of individuals.
What makes a person want to fight fire? I never had the desire.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters.

Smoky Skies in Northern California

The smoke is heavy and low today in Shasta and Trinity counties in California.
Yesterday was a lot better at this time in the morning. In the evening last night the smoke rolled in. The windows have been shut in the house since. The sun is peeking out so that is good. We have not seen much of the sun this month. Air quality is very unhealthy. On a better note. Evacuations were lifted for some family members and they can return home! Woooo Hooooo.
Many thanks out to all the firefighters and crews, and the military!
